Who We Are

We are Chris and Patrice Clarke, co-owners of Engelhard Mattamuskeet Seafood Inc. and owners of the Diamond Shoal Brand.

Just as our box says “FRESH SEAFOOD,” we here at Diamond Shoal Shrimp Co. pride ourselves in local, fresh caught shrimp off the coast of North Carolina. Our shrimp come from mostly small trawlers or skimmers that unload several times each week, some daily. They are 100% natural, never processed or imported and are chemical-free. The quality is phenomenal; unprecedented to any other.

Our goal is for more people all across the United States to have effortless access to quality seafood.

We are thankful to be living and working on the southeast coast of the United States. May God Bless our commercial fishermen and May God Bless America!

Our History

In the 1970s, my father Gene Carawan, his brother Charles Carawan, and their brother-in-law Gary Mayo built the building we currently operate in, which now sits on Far Creek. They originally built it as a crab-buying station for their picking house, Mattamuskeet Seafood, in 1985.

My husband and I became the sole owners and operators of the building in 2003. My father was a vital part of the business, up until his death in 2006.

We have three sons, Waylon, Cole, and Matt, who help us as needed, which is often. We buy crabs, shrimp, fish, and shed soft crabs.

Whenever we aren’t working at the fish house, our boys are hunting something. In Hyde County, there is lots of hunting, farming, and fishing. So, that’s what we do! You can learn more about the wildlife of Mattamuskeet and Hyde County here!
